"I requested a home insurance quote from State Farm as my previous insurance provider was about to increase my premium. I was contacted by Stephanie Wallace's office and offered a bundle that appeared to be saving me money on both my auto AND my home insurance. There was another close contender, and I was carefully considering if I wanted to give up my Progressive loyalty discount. I finally decided to move forward with State Farm, and everything seemed great. A few weeks later, I received a call asking if my parents lived in my household. I said they lived hours away from me and confirmed they would not be driving my cars. About a week after that, my father called me to tell me he had State Farm mail in my name. I followed up with them to figure out what happened, and it turned out they had put my auto-policy at my parent's address (something I never provided in my request). They later followed up to tell me that my auto premium would be increasing by $360 due to the change of address. When I explained that they had gotten my business through misleading information and that I would have been in a better position if I had taken a different offer, the only suggestion they had was to reduce my coverage. I tried to press them to take responsibility for the next 6-months at least, but they offered no meaningful discounts claiming that they had no options on their end. I did my research and found they they absolutely can create ad-hoc discounts at the agent's discretion as needed, which told me that this was not about their ability but rather about willingness to take responsibility. Considering State Farm's great customer service reputation, I'm surprised at how this was handled. If nothing is done to remedy this before my 6 month policy is complete, I will be looking at least for a different agent - preferably a different insurance company altogether."
